Provisioning is the trade skill for the creation of food and drinks in Elder Scrolls Online. Everyone starts with a very basic set of skills in this trade to get started. The primary advantage to learning this trade skill is to create your own food instead of buying them from someone else with the tradeskill. The passive bonuses that increase the duration of food and drink only add 5 minutes to each respectively and the better quality foods already last 1 hour for blue quality and 2 hours for purple quality. This makes the passives rather a waste of skill points.
All of the foods and drinks in the game are governed by a tier system just as all other crafting types. Each food tier has a specific ingredient that must be found by looting containers in the game world for that level range. Barrels, cabinets, chests, sacks, jars, every random container you loot may contain a food ingredient. The first ingredient in all food and drink recipes are always dropped only, and remain a constant for all 3 food/drink of that tier. For example, Roasted Goat. It makes level 1 food for Stamina increase and requires Goat Meat and Drippings to create. There is also Goatherd’s Pie and Goat Bone Soup. Each still require Goat Meat, but they then require Meal and Thin Broth respectively. The Drippings, Meal and Thin Broth are all used in matching recipes for level 5, 10, and 15 as well, each with a different base ingredient. So when you are leveling up your provisioning keep this in mind. If you use all your Thin Broth on a level 1 recipes you won’t have any for the level 5-15’s when you get to the higher.
Advanced Food & Drinks
Basic green quality food and drink recipes are easy to find. Just do a lot of random container looting and before long you will find several. These plans all always require only 2 ingredients, however when you find a blue recipe you need a third rare ingredient. The rare ingredient you need is static. It will be the same ingredient for all blue recipes of that type. Meaning a level 10 blue food like Enriched Scuttle Scramble requires Salt. The Salt is used also in level 50 Enriched Fishy Sticks.
So you will obviously want to save rare ingredients for higher level foods unless you are actually using them for your own leveling. Below you will find a list of rare ingredients and what they are used for.
